Hi Andysmum,

I've tried putting that web address in but it doesn't seem to work?

Andysmum

Try www.historicaldirectories.org which is a free site and, if you can find a directory for the right date, should tell you how many different businesses there were.

Hi,
Sorry I haven't replied for a while. I had to pop round my dads as he has been taken poorly.

Cathy - yes that is my family. My mum has just told me that eventually all the brothers had their own business'. They probably all worked for the same

I wondered if there was anywhere I could view a business and the names of the people that owned it. Apparently Jabez went by the name Tom and his brother John was called Henry. These oldies don't make our lives easy do they. Thats why it's important to talk to your family eh.

Thanks again for all your help

It looks like it's brother George that has the shop and his business is at home so probably lives above the shop

The butchers is now called Boston Sausages. They are based in Boston Lincolnshire and she picture of the shop still shows the family name Mountain.
I know I am biased but they are the best sausages I have ever tasted. lol. They still used the original recipe too, among others.

Hi,

My great grandad and his brother trained as butchers in Boston, Lincolnshire. They ran a shop which they took over from the previous owner in approx 1904. The shop was called after the family name - MOUNTAIN.
There were 3 brothers who show on the 1901 census as butchers/ butchers apprentice. Jabez and John were at home with parents and George was staying with grandparents
I do not have a subscription to ancestry and do not know how to search for a business etc.
The butchers website says that Jabez started the business, but I find it hard to believe that at 19 years old he did this alone. I believe his older brother George (my great grandad) and his younger brother John were all partners.

Does anyone know of a way I could find out.
I have all the census info that I need. I hope I have given enough info but If you need any further detail, I can give it.
Thanks.

Cheryl
