Once again I appeal to the board for help in climbing a brick wall.
My grandfather, Harry SHORE, died in Bournemouth in 1978, leaving a mystery as to his birthplace. None of his surviving family seems to have any idea of where he was born.

What I do know is this:
He was married to Ethel May HICKS on Oct. 9, 1923, in London.

He gave his father's name as Charles, a "master butcher."

At the time, he was living on Bridge Road, Hackney.

He gave his age as 24, which would put his birth year at about 1899. His occupation at the time was "journeyman tailor." I also know that he ran a tailor shop for many years in London.

He died in Bournemouth on May 26, 1978. The informant, his youngest daughter, gave his birth year as "about 1892" in London.

I have found entries in the 1901 and 1911 census that could be him. They suggest that his father had died by 1901 and that his mother, Ellen, had remarried to James Adams.

The census entries give Harry's birthplace as Waltham Abbey, Essex, and the year as 1892.

Here is the problem: I cannot find any evidence of Harry's birth. Nor can I find any butcher named Charles Shore in the census who has a son Harry or a wife Ellen. And I can't find convincing evidence of Charles Shore's birth.

Harry seems to have appeared out of nowhere. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
