Hi everyone
I've exported a gedcom to my Family Tree Maker. It seems ok. I've since updated lots on my tree on genes (which I, more familiar with). Do I export it again to FTM and does this override the original one I've exported or create a NEW TREE?
I'm learning computer and genealogy in small spurts so please explain in simple terms.
Any help appreciated.

Two options really. Create a new tree or merge the new gedcom with your original. The first is probably safer until you get more experience and are confident in what you are doing.

However, personally I do things the other way around. FTM is my definitive master record and all additions, amendments etc are done there. Then, periodically I upload a new version to sites such as GR, Ancestry etc. When you do this to GR you original is deleted / over-ridden. On Ancestry you create a new tree, so it works slightly differently.

Thankyou for explaining that so clearly. Yes, I agree with how you do things yourself and that is/was my intention. However, I got too enthusiastic with wanting to try "GEDCOM" exporting and exported it to FTM. Then I reverted back to genes to update my tree because I couldn't be bothered to find my way around new FTM software and subsequently made things more complicated for myself!!!
Fast approaching "senior moments" methinks.......
