Although Family Tree maker for Mac has been available online for Mac since August 2010
It will now be released in Australia on January 20th 2011.

Yesterday I went into Harvey Norman shop and found out I can pre order for the 20 th Jan delivery date. A deposit required for the quoted price of $85 aus.

Seem all my research can finally be downloaded to my laptop.

Hi its morning here in Aus; sorry for the 8 hour delay;

No

I have exported my gedcom file from genesreunited and saved it on my desktop.

Have ordered the FTM for Mac, Which is the edition made especially for AppleMac, and when it arrives I will load the program and then import my Gedcom into this program.

The program came after 2 months wait on order. which was very annoying. one thought they could have been a little more efficient, especially since advertising that it would become available in late January.

Anyway its all going smoothly, and Im working my tree privately now, not adding to the gr tree until I can get back beyond 1690.
not posting my tree to ancestry either

Glad to here that FTM for Mac is working. Do you know if there is much difference between the PC version and the mac version?

I have FTM 2010 on PC but my husband wants to get rid of our PC and only use the Mac we have. Up until this point my argument has been that my FTM won't work on the Mac so it looks like it's time to change.

I have Googled Harvey Norman and nothing appears for FTM for Mac so did you happen to buy it in NSW?

Gai,
yes I did buy it through Harvey Norman in NSW

You may have to ask them at the computer software desk to order it for you.
When I went in to order, the guy rang the supplier, to place my order,
when I went to pick it up I saw 3 copies on the shelf, and he got my copy from preorder desk.

Im not sure what the differences are between PC windows and Mac version.
All I know is its very easy for me to use with my track pad.

You could save your gedcom from the pc version and then tranfer it to the Mac if that's the way you want to go.

The program was very easy to install, register etc. Facility to go online if I ever choose, and I can also do that without putting up my tree.
Read carefully.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe if I just play dumb then I won't have to worry about changing. As long as my husband doesn't google FTM then I should be able to get away with it.

I love the fact that the rest of the house uses mac's and I'm the only one using the PC so I don't have to share. That's sounds childish and naughty I know but there are so many other distractions from doing research that I like hiding upstairs away from the family.

the main reason I bought this Mac

Mac have very few virus problems that windows seems to get.

I had endless trouble with my PC system about 4 years ago, so a friend suggested this.

Have Had no virus at all, and very little spam.
