Deaths registered before April 1st 1969 didn't have a column for date of birth.

Looking at the death indices on Ancestry it seems that the date of birth is usually given in the index from 1969 onwards - no need to buy the certificate for DoB.

My grandfather's cert in Nov 1968 has no dob or pob. Col 5 is occupation.

I have a death cert for 1939 only has her age at death on it, but one from 1969 has full dob and pob.

Oh okay was just wondering if you could get them.

Yes Column 5 is where my dad's birth details appear.

Just checked a cert I have for 1919 and there are no such details. So it would seem that Birth details were added some time between 1919 and 1980

Anyone narrow this down further?

Unlike birth certificates, there is no such thing a a 'long' or 'short' version.

What you get is what you get, as it where. I know that the details recorded have changed over the years, but as ever, are only as good as where provided by the informant at the time. No further check is made.

My dad's death in 1981 does show his date and place of birth on the certificate. However, this is a relatively recent addition, but I am not certain when it was introduced. Death certs I have for the 1800's do not have this information

You can't at least not in England and Wales.

Where is the other cert you have from?

Martin Report 9 Jan 2011 19:31

I have a death certificate though for my great grandfather which shows his date of birth and place of birth which is more detailed. I was just wondering how you can get hold of these more detailed death certificates.

Death certs for England and Wales do not give details relating to the birth
of the individual concerned - nearest you get is their age, which may well be estimated.

Hello I have just received a death certificate for an ancestor but it was not what I expected, it is short certificate which only shows where my ancestor died, when and why and did not tell me where she was born and when which is why I needed it. I was just wondering how can you get a full death certificate which says where the deceased was born and when etc.
Kind Regards
Martin
