Hello Eileen,

Welcome to the boards :)

Have you got your dad's birth certificate? That should list his parents names. Edit: Was he born in England /Wales?

(If you haven't got it, we could point you in the right direction so that you can order it)

It depends when he was born. If it was pre 1940 you can probably find his birth reg on http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
If later Ancestry or Findmypast will provide details. All will give his mother's maiden name...then you can look for a marriage of his parents.
You will need a subscription to Ancestry or Findmypast or give details and ask for a lookup here.

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

Go into search ( click on births ) and enter your dads name, year and place of birth...if his birth reg shows it will give you mums maiden name then you can search for a marriage....

Have you tried a search on here to see if anyone has him in their tree...go to Search ( search box below the genes reunited logo ) and enter his name....

Hi Eileen

Let us know how you are getting on. There is nothing better than finding the information for yourself.

There are quite a few free sites especially for for Lancashire research

Please note that the free bmd site doesn't include Scotland or Northern Ireland as far as I am aware. They have their own index :)

Your parents marrige cert should name his father which will help when looking for his birth and his parents marriage.

If you want some help to start then post some details and we can take a look
