Hello Wade,
GR site disappeared into cyberspace due to "Essential Maintenance" a couple of hours ago midway through looking at the Censuses!! On the 1861 Census Charles is shown at the age of 9 as being "Plater Loom Cotton Factory". By 1881 he has a grocery shop which would be a world away from being subject to child labour. Did his wife's family originally have the shop?

PS the only baptism record for a Charles Heaton from Burnley I can find is

Baptisms: 30 Nov 1862 All Saints, Habergham Eaves, Lancashire, England
Charles Heaton - Son of Joseph Heaton & Jane
Abode: Woodburn? Cottage
Occupation: Labourer
Baptised by: E A Verity
Register: Baptisms 1845 - 1900, Page 67, Entry 536
Source: LDS Film 1526203

Just wondering whether they may have decided to baptise him when he got to 10?

After a great response on the paternal side of my friend's family, I wonder if I could ask for a similar favour on the maternal side?

The guy I'm seaching for is:

HEATON, Charles born c 1852, Burnley, Lancashire. In 1881 he was married and living in the Haversham Eves district of Burnley as a grocer aged 29 with a youngest child age 9 so probably married after 1871.

PS thanks FLIP for the great tip re Lancashire babtisms. The only one of "my"counties which had a similarly impressive resource was Isle of Wight.
