Snagit Screen Capture Software

One piece of software I find very useful for genealogy is a screen capture program. This allows one to take a snapshot of an area of your screen and is great for example when someone is kind enough to post details of a census page you are looking for. There are plenty of good programs out there some of which are free, but for Windows the commercial program that I use and is generally considered the class leader is SnagIt v10.

Unless you are going to use it intensely you may not find it worth the purchase price and may prefer to use a free program but if you are not averse to "ünofficial" software its very easy to download if you search for

Are you advocating software piracy?

PP Yes as with most tasks Windows comes complete with in integrated option the Print Screen command which does screen capture in a basic way which is probably OK for light users.

Snagit, is a much more sophisticated and flexible program. However, I suspect that few users here could justify the purchase price so those concerned re piracy questions but wanting to try something more flexible than print screen may wish to try one of the several freeware alternatives such as
