Uninstalling FTM 2009

Thanks Inspector, I see what you mean I’ve had a look at the FTM files on C drive and everything is showing as 2011 except one showing a back up of 2009 to 2010, no doubt created when 2010 was installed last year.

So that’s why it says 2009 has been removed because in effect it was when it was overwritten by 2010 then 2011, strangely though if I launch 2009 from the old shortcut it opens as 2009 with just access to the original trees I created then.

I’ll take your advice and just leave it alone, apart from deleting the short cuts, so I don’t keep clicking on them by mistake!

Thanks again,
Best wishes,
Mayfield.

Leave well alone.....!

FTM 2010 is an upgraded version of FTM 2009 and in turn, FTM 2011 is an upgraded version of FTM 2010.

There is no need to un-install FTM 2009 as the later versions will have effectively over-written the earlier version.

Your actual tree data, is held in separate files to the FTM program. In fact, it is possible to have hundreds of different trees all at the same time.

Look at it in the same way as Word for Windows is your Word Processor = FTM is your Tree program and Word has many documents i.e. .doc files and FTM has many trees i.e. .ftm files.

You mention Memory. This is not an issue. Programs don't take up memory, only a tiny amount of disk space.

Hi All,
I have FTM 2009, 2010 and 2011 all installed on my PC which is running XP, I really would like to uninstall 2009 but it’s a tenacious little beast.

It tells me it’s uninstalling and then confirms it’s finished the task, but like some kind of stubborn virus it’s still there! I visited “help” and we all know just how useful that can be!
The help suggestion was to go through the uninstall process with the original installation disc in place, but still the same result.

I am loathe to go deleting files willy-nilly as the last thing I want to do is loose anything from FTM 2011, or 2010 which I want to keep as a back up.

It’s not the end of the world to leave it on there, I still have plenty of memory, but if anyone has had the same problem and knows a safe & simple solution, I would be grateful if they can pass it on please.

All the best,
Mayfield.
