Is it 100% clear on the image - if not, maybe you could post details so folks can have a look?

Very intriguing. What about posting details anyway - it might seem pointless but it sometimes helps to see the context. Also, have you found him in any further census?

He must have come out of the Army on a pension. There were IN pensioners is lived at the Chelsea Almshouses. and OUT pensioners ie got a pension but didnt live in the Almshouses. My grt grt grandfather was an OUT chelsea pensioner having been discharged on medical reasons in 1849 after 24 years service.
There are Chelsea Pensioner records now on Find My Past

About Chelsea pensioners:

There are two categories of Chelsea Pensioner: In-Pensioners, those who surrendered their Army Pension and were admitted as residents of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Out-Pensioners, those who lived ‘Out ‘, at home and abroad. All records for Out-Pensioners are held by the National Archives at Kew. If you find details of an ancestor in a Census it is a definite indication that he was an Out-Pensioner
