Hi there,
Trying to piece a family secret, think i have found it out now. But kind people have looked for me and because of the 1881 stray list it makes me doubt. Can you tell me if Loughton is in St. Mary-le-wigford Lincoln or has the person who wrote it mixed it up, think he came from and was in deed born in Laughton le ne morthern, but then the spelling is always left to the enumerator. Thanks

Hi,
Try this website:

Laughton Parish Council - Lincolnshire County Council
Laughton is a small rural village in North Lincolnshire. It is an ancient settlement mentioned in the Doomsday book as belonging to Guy de Lacton or Craeon. ...

Laughton -en le-Morthern is in South Yorkshire and in 1881 was way too off to be classed in Lincolnshire.it is about 10 miles from Dinnington S/Yorkshire.

St Mary le Wigford isnt a place, its a church in central Lincoln city centre.

If any of your original information came from Ancestry, beware - some of the transcribers guesses at county are very wild - only yesterday I saw someone as being born in Berwick Durham Yorkshire.

Looks as though the confusion arises from a Samuel Padley born 1849 shown on transcription as born Laughton,Yorkshire but living as a boarder11 Bethel Place, Lincoln 1881 Census This may be the Samuel Padley shown on the List of Strays as born Yorkshire 1849 but living in Lincolnshire.
Suggest look at the actual Census as there appears to be another Samuel Padley born 1843 Wickersley, Yorkshire per the original 1891 & 1901 Censuses. More time consuming to trace this way but worth the effort.

Hi there,
Dont think samuel padley wckersley would appear on the 1901 census and he appears to be dead in 1888 according to his daughters wedding certificate. If you have found him in 1901 that would be interesting. I don't have access to Ancestry, i have to go to the library. Many thanks for all your help.

Which was the last census you saw them in, and where were they?

Hi Allison,
If you do not have access to original Census records and would like to have a look please send me your email address by pm only and I will download and send them on an attachment. On the original the place that has been transcribed as "Laughton" is very difficult to read but looks as though it has 9 letters in it not 8 as Laughton has.
Suggest you link your "Samuel Padley Death" thread to this to avoid duplication of work.
