Could Nellie be Another Name for Anything Please

I have a Nellie Starkey on the 1911 census aged 29, single and born in Stockton Heath, Cheshire. I cannot find her on any census before 1911 and she should possibly be on 1891 and 1901. Just wondered if anyone knew if it could be listed under another name. There are quite a few Nellie Starkeys but none from Stockton Heath.

Any help appreciated, thanks for your help

Going by my Mums tales of her Auntie Nellie for years, found her birth as Helena Mary Ann :-) am sure there are more...

You're right, just one of those names! Could be Eleanor, or just a nickname. Do you have any other info about her- marriage, parents etc?

She was single in the 1911 census aged 29 with a 4 month old child, but living with someone in another branch of my tree, its a bit complicated but I am trying to find the connection. I am trying to find her parents.

Thanks for finding those for me, although my Starkeys are around 1820 Stockton Heath and Appleton are also connected in my tree. Appleton where a Thomas Pike was born who married a Sarah Starkey in 1837 in Great Budworth. I will somehow have to trace back. The person that Nellie is living with is a Dutton from Bunbury, but if we come forward from then somewhere there is a connection in my dads line with all three surnames. Told you it was complicated lol. Thanks again

Just tried tracing it back and just maybe Ellen`s grandfather is the brother of my Sarah Starkey. Got to find out more next time I go to Record Office. Not got all Sarah`s siblings yet. I am hoping this may solve the mystery. Once again thanks for your help

Hi,
I had two Aunt Nellie's. It can also be a shortened version of Helen, Gaelic equivalent is Aileen, but I have seen it on birth certificates as Nellie.

Thank you but I think I will go with the Ellen Jane until I can prove that it is or isnt that name when I go to Record Office. I wouldnt have even thought of that name. Thanks for all replies.

My great aunt Nel (one 'l') was actually Alice!
She became Nel when she started courting her husband, Leonard.
They were like two peas in a pod, so became Len and Nel!

Didnt realise I would get so many replies and help, found a tree on Ancestry with my Sarah Starkeys father Joseph on, she doesnt have Sarah but does have a George as son of Joseph (brother of Sarah??). George is Ellen Jane`s grandfather. Just need to check this out at record office.
