trying to find my great aunts husband. he was first found age 14 on the 1881 census living in a boys home great clowes street salford. lancs. then he is getting married 1892 to ann bateson again in salford. then ann is living as a servant with her sisters brother in law george stonehill. together with her daughter age 4 mary ann moffitt. . she is shown as married. then in 1913 she marries john crier in salford.at a roman catholic church. so i must presume phillip has died. we cannot find him, if he ended up dying in a hospital or institution where would we find the records. maria

thank you all so much for your help with phillip moffatt, especially the death in 1913, this would explain why she remarried in 1913. i now need to find out where he died, if inhospital does anyone know how you get access to hospital records. maria

If you buy the death certificate from the GRO, it will give the place and cause of death, you won't get access to hospital records

I worked in a psychiatric hospital and they had records on all staff and patients going right back to the opening - over hundred years

there are records for Whittingham Hospital in the Lancashire Records Office

Maria

Maria Report 9 Feb 2011 12:48

there are so many suggestions, especially the hospital having records going back 100 years, i might try to follow this one up ! i also think there must have been a good reason for her to be living apart from him with a 4 year old child, he must have been very ill. many thanks for your help all of you.

Hi maria

I used ancestry.co.uk

just use the initials P and M for searching, year of birth +/- 5 years, and place of birth Lancashire

Initials only were often used to help mask the identity, and thus preserve the privacy, of people in insane asylums, some prisons, and even workhouses.
