Have a look at RMP Redcaps.com site
It has lots of info about the military police plus some Photos from various years
My husband was in the miltary police in the 1950's and the Squad Photo taken after his basic training at Inkerman Barracks is on this site

The marriage certificate of your fathers parents will /could or should name both fathers of the bride and groom.

ages of bride and groom also will be on it it should be possible to find a registered birth for your grandfather unless it was outside UK.from that its just a matter of linking information together to take it backwards on your grandads line,if this is the path you want to go.

If you are looking to obtain his service records, WW2 service records are not online nor in the public domain, they are still held by the MOD they might be released in 2020

They are only available to the person themselves or NOK which has to be proven.

Here is the link to the THe Veterans Agency to whom apllication has to be made which explains all you need to know

http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/army.html

They are free to the person whose records they are but £30-00 to nok, there is a long wait to obtain these records could be 6 months.

Age range of men who served in WW2 is several years and as your grandfather may still be alive not advisable to post too much detail on this board. If you send me a personal message (known as pm-click on name under "Posted by") with possible year of his birth I will try and trace his date of birth as a start point.

There is a possible marriage for your grandparents in Cambridgeshire. Do you have a copy of the marriage certificate?

Hi,

I am really stuck here, I am trying to trace my grandfather. I only have his name and a military serial number for the London Divisional Provost Company. His name was/is William Cook the military serial number was 7684453. He served during WW2 as my dad was born in 1939 and his father was serving then. My father was born in Wisbeach Cambridgeshire and I believe his father was from London, he married my grandmother Beatrice Johnson at the beginning of 1940 and they divorced when my dad was 7. I am new to this and really don't know where to start any help would be much appreciated.
