Thanks Joy, it definitely looks like RO, it has a funny loopy thing on the top of the letter. But if all else fails it could be rural district, as Alpraham could be classed as that.

Are you sure that it is RO? Could it possibly be RD?
RD would stand for Rural District.

I have just received a death certificate for a Samuel Dutton who died in Alpraham in 1898. Under the column Where and When Died it says 25th December 1898 Alpraham RO. Please has anyone any idea what the RO means.
