round up or down 1841

I agree PigletsPal - most of mine have "odd" ages, just inaccurate rather than rounded down. I just widen the search till they hopefully turn up. Nobody has gone astray by 11 years though!
Researching your family is definitely a lesson in lateral thinking.
You have to watch birthplaces too. Mu husband's great-grandfather was one of ten and his father was on the railways, so the birthplaces of the children were all over the place. On census reports all the birthplaces are there but not necessarily for the right children!

Personally i would round both up and down if no joy finding who you are looking for - might pay off if my ancestors are anything to go by!

In the 1841 Census a policy of rounding down ages was in place.

* As such people aged:
* 15-19 were recorded as 15;
* 20-24 were recorded as 20;
* 25-29 were recorded as 25;
* 30-34 were recorded as 30;
* 35-39 were recorded as 35;
