On the 1911, which was completed by the householder, a stillbirth might still have been included in the number of childen born, even if the birth wasn't registered/.

Any child who takes even one breath when born should in theory be recorded in the births and the deaths.

Three of my grandmother's 11 children died when only a few hours old and their deaths are recorded. A set of twins were born in the early 1920s but a single baby born in 1930 was also recorded despite living for such a short time.

If you found out about the 4 children who died from the 1911 census, then none of them would have been stillbirths as the question on the form asks "How many children born alive?" and then "How many have died?". Stillbirths wouldn't be mentioned on the 1911 census.

Stillbirths have only required registration from 1927. These records can only be accessed by the parents.

You could search Freebmd to look for any likely births. Births after 1911 on there show the mothers maiden name. You could then look for likley deaths.

hi all,
i have just found out that my great grandmother who i thought had 6 children really had 10!
could anyone tell me if those children had lived for a while would the parents have registered them?
if the children were stillborn, would they be registered also or not?
