I found Martha living with grandparents in Garboldisham Norfolk in 1881 and 1891 Census. I have just received her birth cert and found she was born on 4 Feb 1876 in Lavenham Suffolk, her parents were a John Self and Elizabeth Clarke who married in 1871, Elizabeth died in 1879 and until now I didn't think they had any children.

Cannot find her in 1901 or 1911 Census so think she must have married about 1895, John was in Clitheroe in the 1881 Census and remarried there in1885 have looked without success and I know a lot of you are better than me at finding either a marriage or death.

Thanks.

Lesley

Hi thanks for looking I hope I can go forward as this birth was a surprise since as I said I did not think they had any children before she died ,Martha's grandmother was living with her son so don't think Martha would be the informant on her death.

Will have to give it some thought as to where to go.

Try subscribing (free) to the rootsweb mailing list for Suffolk and posting on there; I have seen the Self surname mentioned on it.

Hi Nicky and everyone

Sorry for the delay in replying had to go out for the day and thanks for looking but it says Martha Ann Self and the birth cert certainly gives her middle name as Elizabeth although the year would be about right, is it possible that the wrong middle name was put on or am I clutching at straws?

I will put a message on roots I have contacted someone on this site with the correct name and year of birth - no reply yet.
