OOOhh 'Thank 'evans' for that InspectorGreenPen - I thought for a minute I was getting advice form a 'junkie' (tee hee - NO offence meant to Junkies!) - Coal, I DO understand !

Thanks for your advice, I think I will leave it until the weekend and then give it a try.

It isn't usually a good idea to go backwards, especially as XP is effectively obsolete and will eventually become unsupported.

Upgrading is the most convenient way to get Windows 7 on your computer, because it keeps your files, settings, and programs from Windows Vista in place.

These are the upgrade instructions from Windows

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-vista-to-windows-7

Looking at the actual install instructions (see Step 2) it seems fairly straightforward.

PS Coke as in Coal - I also need candles to see the screen when it gets dark.....!

Thanks InspectorGreenPen

I did do a google but there are conflicting opinions - some say it is simple and others say that it caused unfixable problems on the computer and a constant need to re-boot!

Not being a 'technical expert', I am unsure as to what is the best thing to do. SO untechnical, in fact, that I do not even understand your reference to being 'on coke' ? - you say - "I'm still on coke - running XP " !! - I am sure it doesn't really mean what I think it does (tee hee)

I DO know that I had no problems with using XP - perhaps I should try to down-grade to that ?

Thanks for your reply though.

I'm still on coke - running XP - so I cant speak from experience, but my son did his last year with no problems much easier than upgrading from XP to Vista.

Cost depends on which version you go for. I gather in certain circumstances / versions it is possible to do an upgrade, rather than a clean install, which makes thing much easier.

Why not just Google something like upgrade to windows 7 and you will find lots of info.

Hi all,

Has anyone done this upgrade?

I have Vista and I absolutely HATE it ! - It has a mind of it's own and does not seem to follow any logical paths like my old XP system.

I am told I can upgrade to Windows 7 which they say is very much better.

What I would like to know is:

1). Is this a worthwhile upgrade to do - i.e. is Windows 7 a better system?

2). Is it simple to do, as I am not a computer expert?

3). Where do I get it from and how much does it cost?

Any help, advice, opinions etc would be gratefully received.

Thanks,

Dea x
