Also, forgot to say - electoral registers are searchable by address not name apart from very recent ones (2003 onwards i think) which can be searched online. As far as I know only the Midlands has an online register for earlier electoral registers which are searchable by both name and address.

You can look in person where they are kept, usually at the nearest main library. Remember that of limited use in that all men over 21 and women over 30 got the vote in1919, and women over 21 in 1929. Slightly more complicated than that but pretty much correct for most people.
Before this more complex as it effectively depended on social status.
