Can I ask for some advice. Is there any way I can get hold of or sight of a marriage in 1854 in Southern Ireland.
Thanks

Cornelius(?Cornelium) Supple b 1824c married Brigid (?Brigidam) Stapleton b1837 on 30.11.1854 in Roscommon- parish of Strokestown. They were Roman Catholic.
I sent for marr cert , not realising that the Office of theRegistrar General only hold certificates after 1854. Before that date they are held in the parishes and possibly at the National Library of Ireland. Unfortunately I hadn't planned , at the moment at least, to visit Ireland!
It would be great if you can help

Where did you get the details of the marriage from? You will not be able to get a marriage cert as such - they did not exist before Civil Registration started. It is possible that the register is still at the church - you could try contacting the Priest to ask if he will send you details

Thanks for suggestions , I got the details from Family Search.Viewing the record on Rootsireland doesn't give christian names of bride and grooms' fathers unfortunately, so I don't think there is any point in trying to contact the parish priest

Thanks for that Ann. I have those details , my problem is getting their father's names. Looked on Rootsireland - only gives their surnames
