I have a Bertha in my tree but can't find her in some records and wonder if anyone knows any variations or pet names that she might have.

Thank you.

Bertha has 21 variant forms: Berrta, Berrte, Berrti, Berrtina, Berrty, Berta, Berte, Berthe, Berti, Bertie, Bertina, Bertine, Bertita, Bertuska, Berty, Bird, Birdie, Birdy, Birta, Birtha and Laberta

Thanks Kathleen she should be remembered by a living relative and isn't! So I am thinking she used another name but only one on her birth and marriage certs.

So often there is a pet name in families that bear no resemblance to the real name!

Thanks again.

Linda

have you tried searching for her under

a) her surname, birth year +/- 5 years, and birth place ONLY

b) Bertha, birth year +/- 5 years, and birth place ONLY

This takes into account possible mis-transcriptions

Thank you will try that I actually think I have found two marriages for her now.

What it really is she has a 17years younger half sister who says she has never heard of her, but I think it is because she was not called Bertha within the family. Just tying up lose ends I suppose!
