Have you tried just searching just using his initials, DOB and POB? He may have been in the workshouse just before he died and quite often inmates were only identified by their initials.

If he died in 1841, there will be a death certificate giving his age so you will know when he was born.
To search local parish registers, phone Suffolk County Records Office to find where to search. Their number is 0845 606 6067

thank you for that.
I have found a potential James on census night at the Dragon Inn. The age is about right
. Anyone out there got a time machine so I can go back and ask him personally. lol

have you searched for his children by forename and birth date ONLY?

or do you always use the surname?

If the latter, try the forename.

Thanks everyone for that, I've searched via his children and not found anything useful. I guess I will be scratching my head for a bit longer. :)

did he have a wife and / or any children?

If so, could you please post them on here

sometimes searching for another member of the family is more successful!

If the above 1841 is correct for Charity, 1851 gives her place of birth so possibly James's birth place too, if she was his sister.

Have hit an absolute brick wall with finding the birth of James Harvey, his death entry is dated November 1841, but he doesn't appear on he 1841 census (not that I can find him anywhere close to his home place of Wilby, Suffolk) He was a gingerbread maker/baker so maybe he was at work, but surely if he was at a place of work he would appear on a census somewhere) Death notified by Charity Allun, who we think was his sister. I don’t even know where to begin searching parish registers for his birth or that of his sister. Can anyone point me in the right direction please
