My great grandmother was called

Annie Paull born 1857c Gwennup Redruth Cornwall

I can not find a birth for her, Father named on her wedding certificate was Henry Paull witness Kezia Paull, marriage was at Falmourth registery office1883 to James Williams.

Do you think she could be Joanna Paull 1858c who in on the 1861,1871 census was with parents Henry and Kezia Paull but nothing more for her marriage or death, is it Joanna calling herself Annie?

Thank you Annabel

Although civil registration in England began in 1837 it was not until 1874 that birth registration became compulsory so many births went unregistered.

Whilst it sounds quite possible that the connection you have made is correct you should really make additional efforts to confirm it. Have you checked the bride's fathers occupation for instance. Is that consistent on the marriage certificate and the census records that you have found him in?

The Henry Paull (Joanna's father) shown in the 1871 census was a miner who I think died in 1876:

Deaths Jun 1876 (>99%)
PAULL Henry 42 Redruth 5c 181

Is the father indicated on the marriage certificate noted as "Miner, deceased)?

Hi Jonesey

Henry Paull's occupation was a miner on the census and on the marriage certificate it did not say deceased

thinking of sending for Joanna birth certificate, Annie and her husband James Williams lived in Gloucester after they left Cornwall trying to find a death for her James died 1909 Annie is on the 1911 census

Not a bad idea I suppose.

In the 1901 census Annie's place of birth is quite specific. Have you tried to find the parish records to see if Annie was baptised there?
