1911 - OCCUPATIONS AS SURNAMES

Kathleen, I've looked at originals and do agree that some are just entered as servant and indeed some people are genuinely called Servant.

However, the majority that I have looked at are most certainly mis-transcribed.

I don't think they are all transcript errors. If you look at the original census images most are entered as just "servant". Some actually have the surname "Servant".

If you're having trouble finding someone in the 1911 then try putting their occupation in the last name field.

If you search on Servant as a last name you'll see what I mean.

I've reported transcript errors for the dozen or so Housekeepers found, the Servants will take longer!

(Guess this may also apply to other census)
