I'm having problems working out how to narrow down the many possibilities there are when trying to find my great grandfather.
he was called Edward Jones born 1879 (this is worked out counting back from a marriage cert) possibly on 11th november (date for a birthday in grandmothers diary). he married a Ada Cleghorn in london.
the problem is i don't know for certain he was even born in london and when you search the name and year, there is heaps of them, how can i narrow it down to the correct one?

many thanks to all who've replied, this is what i think i now have with your help Edward G Jones born Lambeath 1879, son of Edward Jones(b 1853 devon) and Eliza Susan Hill( born 1853 fulham) grandson of edward jones(sweep) and John Hill(gardener).

i thought it was bad enough with the jones, now i find they're all called edward aswell.

i am wondering where william jones aged 8 in 1891and elizabeth jones aged 32 from devon fit in , would they be siblings?

also to be a further pain it turns out edward g jones 1879 was in the army in india at some stage, does any one have any ideas on finding out which regiment he would have belonged to?
