have you put his name in 'search trees' Karen in case he is listed?

If you know where he emigrated to, it is worth checking the phone books online for that area, though very difficult with common names I'm afraid.

The 'search records' feature on here, suggests they only have BMD and UK census, so a record search won't help.

Other sites have some emigration/passenger lists, but it does depend where he went and when.

You could try Facebook as he may have an account to keep in touch with UK friends, or White pages, an on line telephone/address directory.

www.whitepages.com.au.....for Australia

www.whitepages.ca...for Canada

But if he has a common name, it will be difficult.
