You say you have rejoined. If you have signed on with a new identity and password and email address then that explains why you cant see your old tree, as the site thinks you are a new person

You should still be able to sign on to your old identity if you can remember the password and if not GR can send you the password if your email is the same as it was when you last joined.

Hi Can anyone help? Im a past member and a very kind gentleman on the sight Colin helped me put together a family tree to find my birth family and mother which I did, but not with a happy ending... I didnt rejoin, but now find a relative from my natural family has made contact through another sight. Rejoined today and can not find any information or my tree could this be right?

Cheers for that mgnv, your right, i ment that GOR Index rather then marrige certificate.

Thanks for your advice also!

Colin.

Colin - I would attach to both. To be technical, I think the record you're attaching is not the m.cert, but the entry in the GRO index to that marr.

I would also recommend that you download copies of things like that, including censuses. I also copy & paste transcriptions into a text file. Actually, I have a text file for each grandparent. Lastly, you should periodically export a gedcom of your tree to your own PC. (A gedcom is a special text file that can be read by any family tree program.)

Arr right ok, thanks very much Ann. =]

Going to see how I get on with this first...
Think it should be quite fun doing this!

Am I wasting my time attaching the marriage certificate to both parties or usually do people only attach to the male/female?

Thanks again,
Colin.

Thank you so much Jonesey for your quick responses.
Things starting to make a little bit more sense now.

Thanks again,
Colin.

In reverse order:

Q3: Enter females under their Maiden Name. Prior to their marriage search by maiden name, post marriage by their married name.

Q2: If divorced then re-married then add their 2nd husband/wife as an additional partner. When entering any children from either union make sure that you attach them as a child of the appropriate union.

Q1: If you already know the baptism details enter them. If you don't. parish records/registers are the best place to look for them. In that respect I don't think that Platinum membership of GR will be of much use to you. The free site www.familysearch.org or subscription sites such as Ancestry or Find My Past may be of help.

If all else fails feel free to post a query on the appropriate GR message board. When doing so include as much information as possible about the individual.

Unfortunately as you will discover Platinum membership has some drawbacks and limitations (Such as not being able to view the next page of a census). A free site that you will find almost invaluable is www.freebmd.org.uk

Good luck with your research.

Hi people, just subscribed to Platinum Membership yesterday and things already looking a bit confusing...

Just a few things to clear up... If there stupid questions I'm sorry but I am new to this and cannot find any readings about them.

1. When adding someone on my tree it gives an option for baptised... Where would I find this information out?

2. If someone has been divorced and re-married how dose that display on my tree?

3. When searching for a female family member do I search for their maiden name or married name?

Many thanks,
Colin.
