i have traced my great grandfather and grandmother to the 1901 census but then lose them completely. i can find no marriage certificate although they had 11 children and on the birth certificate of my grandad it states that agnes was formerly Thomas.
I have also found a Martin Luther and Luther Martin born about the same time and wondered if in days gone by they did chop and change what they were known as? any help gratefully accepted as i am hitting a brick wall at present. thanks

I think the 1891 might explain why you cant find a marriage for Agnes & Martin.

thanks for the hard work.certainly the first entries are my family as my grandads name is there . all the martin.luther and price were all plasterers which was a family tradition but i still dont understand the Agnes and Jane bit. im assumining it is either a second marriage or a second family.

Possibly the latter


see if you can find Jane Reece ........ either on another census, or a death for her.



But if you can't find a marriage for Martin with Agnes then it means one of 2 thiongs


............... a) there has been a mis-transcription of the names

.............. b) Jane is still alive, and Martin and Agnes could not marry



Try looking much more recently to see if they married late in life (after Jane's death).

I'm poking around on the 1901 trying to find the children of Martin Luther and Jane .... thinking that might help solve the problem


but could that Martin married to Agnes NOT be the same Martin who's married to Jane?
