I have often thought what the United Reform Church was, in this part of Wales we are still Annibynwyr ( Independents).
Many thanks to you both

Independents is another name for the Congregationalists. In 1972 the greater part of the Congregational Church in England and Wales united with the Presbyterian Church in England to form the United Reform Church

You can do no better than look at this excellent document.

Select Marriage Certs, then go to section headed "Rest of the Certificate" and you should find the answers you are looking for.

Received this am the marriage certificates of grand parents and g gparents and have been puzzling all day. One says
Married in Soar Chapel acording to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Independents by Certificate by me
Other says
Married in the Register Office by Licence before me
Please can anyone who knows more than me explain to me the difference between a Licence and a Certificate and between " by me " and "before me".
Many thanks
