Unfortunatley, it's a very common name with several variations - there are loads on the BMD within the ten year span, and the ones that look promising don't match with his age. So not practical to send off for a cert.

Well his death would be registered in the normal way and the cert will show his "home" address
Have you looked on FreeBMD for his death ref

Can anyone help. I'm trying to trace a great uncle, born in Halifax (illegitimate), with what would be termed today 'learning difficulties.' He spent his weekdays in the old workhouse in Halifax, later St. John's Hospital (this was early 1900s),and was allowed home to his aunt and uncle at weekends. When St. John's closed he was moved to another home, we think near Sheffield (possible Barnsley) he stayed there for the rest of his life. Unfortunately I can't be sure of the date of his deathb- but sometime in the 30s-40s.
Does anyone know of any homes in South Yorks?
Shelagh.
