Mayfield Report 22 Apr 2011 09:48

Hi Maureen,
It sounds like your Realplayer has been partly deleted or corrupted in some way, which may be why you are not happy with its operation.

Some years ago I found I was unable to view some images. It kept saying something like cannot find Picture Viewer after a lot of messing about I found out it was a part of Realplayer.

I went to the Realplayer site and downloaded it again; it cleared out the old version before installing the new which then worked fine.

Only thing you have to watch out for is it seems to set its self to load all Realplayer services at start up, so can slow your computer’s boot up time. You can go to start up programs and stop loading automatically if you do find it does slow your machine.

The other option is to explore the Realplayer site to see if they have a removal tool, I had to do this recently with McAfee as even after uninstalling it a lot of McAfee stuff is still left on the machine.

Good luck,
Mayfield

i have found the add/remove page and real player is not on there, , there are plenty of windows programmes on there, could it be part of something else under another name? when i try to open a video enclosed in an email it comes up with the realplayer page, then says' reaplayer has been switched off'', followed by 'realplayer needs additional components to play the presentation - please wait. then - there is no softwear update available to support this content.
i have tried google and it advises the add/remove page so i am back to square one again.

Hi Maureen
When I followed the instructions as I have written out I found Realplayer which was installed/updated on July 2010- next to it was the Realtek driver which as ISP mentioned possibly a default setting as the date was 01/02/02007 which was about the time I bought this computer.-jl

Enter Realplayer in Google, there must be advice there.

No, I think realtek is something else altogether. What you are looking for is something like RealPlayer

Just realised, SatNav's instructions refer to programs which run at Startup. This is not what you want. You need to find the page which says something like Add or Remove Programs (this is the XP terminology)

Janet and SatNav
I have had a look at both of your instructions and it took me to the same page, on scrollomg down the only thing that looked anything like RealPlayer on there was called realtek, is this what i am looking for do you know?

Following on from my reply I have just had a look at my computer. I have vista. I clicked on Start>Clicked Computer>Clicked on heading which said uninstall program. When I did this ALL my programs came up. I scrolled down and found realplayer. If you click onto Realplayer you will be able to uninstall. good luck Janet

Chances are that RP has been set as your default player and as such may not play certain types of files very well.

You need to change your default player to Windows Media Player.

Unfortunately I am still on XP but perhaps there is someone out there who knows how to do it in Vista, or try Googling for the instructions.

I am not the most enlightened ..... but if you click on to Start >Computer there is a heading for uninstalling a program. I couldn't see my realplayer but when I typed realp...into the search it found mine on the C/drive. Does that help at all. Sorry I cannot delve deeper- jl

can anybody please help. on my husbands laptop is installed realplayer (on vista) for some reason it seems to have stopped working. i cannot see what is wrong with it and so decided to uninstall, but i cant find out how do do that either. I have used google and the instructions are as normal, go to add and remove etc but on doing that there is nothing to show that it is installed - is it included with something else i wonder?
On going the other way through programmes i can find realplayer, realplay converter and realplayer trimmer, but no indicatin how to get rid of it or how to turn the thing back one, It has always been vey slow and compared to windows media that i have on my computer it is useless, what i would ideally like to do is remove realplayer and install windows media player if that is at all possible or failing that either know how to switch realplayer back on or uninstall it and start again. Would be grateful for any help.
