Once find my past had had the complete 1911 census online for six months, then other companies were allowed to apply to transcribe it, and this is being done by both ancestry, and by http://www.thegenealogist.co.uk/ as one can see: http://www.thegenealogist.co.uk/1911/?data=1911TGHP

I seem to recall that ancestrys' intention is to scan and make available the images and then add the transcriptions in much the same way as they have with some of the London christenings

As far as I know, Ancestry propose to add the 1911 census to their existing UK Census Collection, in which case it will be available to Essential Subscribers. They are already working on it, and, as mentioned, the Census summary Books are already available to view, albeit they are of limited value.

The blurb on the UK Census Collection page says:-

.....Our latest addition is the 1911 England & Wales Census Summary Books — we’ll be adding the rest of the 1911 Census over the next few months.

As far as 1881 is concerned, it is only the transcripts that are free to view. If you want copies of the census page itself, you have to pay.

Just added a bit to Jonesey's thread for folks using Ancestry's summary books.

My understanding was that ancestry would get access to the 1911 records in March or April this year ..... and that they would then begin to transcribe them

They are not buying the transcription done by the 1911 Census, which was then sold to fmp.

so that will take months to do

And I doubt that you will be able to see it "free" even then ............... unless you have World subscription

Ancestry says that the rest of the 1911 census will be added "over the next few months". Hopefully that will be before your subscription runs out.
