Thanks for the reply, I would go to Rootschat, but for some reason I can no longer log in, I keep getting an error message, it's very frustrating!

Adoption as such did not exist until 1927.

Does anybody know of any records available regarding the adoption of children who were inmates of Whiston workhouse in the 1880's? Or does anyone have the same problem with the search for their ancestors?
I have tried St Helens History and Archives who were unable to help.
Any suggestions gratefully received
