Old NHS numbers

The old NHS numbers before the digitised the system are linked to a person's birth certificate. I believe the letters refer to the registration district and possibly year of birth. The number at the end is the entry number in the birth register. This could be very useful for people who are adopted.

I liked my old number and remember it well. I even managed to get it back once, when I'd lived abroad for a while and came back into UK and was issued with a new number ( pre digital)
I'm not sure about the letters, but I did realise that the numbers linked to the birth certificate.

No idea of my present number. I have to look it up.
