i need to buy a copy of FTM but i am confused by the array of different versions available.

All i want is something simple and easy to user that i can separate out family lines and print trees and reports.. im not a whistle and bells person so which is the best version to go for

The most sensible option is really to purchase the latest version (2011). Although this may give you more options than you feel that you currently need, your needs may vary in the future.

That version is currently available packaged with a time limited membership of Ancestry and that in itself can be worth more than the cost of FTM. My suggestion is that you Google Family Tree Maker and see who is currently offering the best price.

I purchased my copy of the Platinum version in December for less than £40 and that also gave me 6 months Ancestry Premium membership which alone would have cost me £60+. If you are already a subscriber to Ancestry the additional membership time can be added to your current subscription.

Hi Whitenancy,
As Jonesey says I would go for the Platinum version 2011 (£29.99 at Amazon) you will probably be asked to set up an automatic renewal debit.
It's not a problem, just note it on your calender so you can cancel before it's taken if you don't wish to carry on. I have done it in the past and had I no hassle at all from Ancestry when I cancelled

You can download family tree builder free from My Heritage. Just sign up no need to pay for membership if you only want to do a tree. You can also print off beautiful trees on a variety of backgrounds

I did what Hazel suggested and have managed to print out my mother's side of the family tree so far, It looks nice and I can tweak it a bit - add marriages, occupations etc even different coloured backgrounds.

Its worth a try out before you buy as Hazel says its free.
