Thanks to you all for your replies. Obviously the same person I got last year must be the same one some of you got. I did think they were stoppy but didn't want to say.

Christine I've already got FTM 2010 but thanks for the tip.

+++DetEcTive+++ I tried that last year, but didn't do me any good. He just repeated the same old words " I'm not authorised to give discounts over the phone". EVen when I told them other member's had received discounts over the phone - answer was the same. Made me wonder if I got a human being or a machine!!!

Aunty Sherlock, thanks for your suggestion I'm giving it a go tomorrow as my subscription runs out then. I will let you know how I get on.

I also had a stroppy person when I phoned last year to get a discount. Woman said they do not give discounts. I stated that several of my friends had received one how was that. After leaving me on hold for 5 mins, she came back and offered 25% but said it was a one off, would not be able to do it this year.

I renewed my WW package on the 15th and by phoning, got a 25% discount. The key words were 'I will have to leave because of the cost'. He did have to search around for a discount code, so may be they are variable and only apply at certain times. .

One thing you could do is purchase Family Tree Maker 2011 from Amazon for £29.99 which comes with 6mths free platinum membership.

I renewed last October . They eventually offered me a year premium membership for 80 pounds 50. (sorry foreign keyboard doesn´t have a pound sign)
Keep nagging.

I got 10% two months ago over the phone and I know others who have got more. I rang them last week because I wanted to upgrade to worldwide
.
When I clicked to upgrade all they did was to charge me the full price but would refund the 10 months remaining to the card that I purchased it with.

As I was then not getting any discount I rang them.....right stroppy man telling me they do not give discounts it must have been a promotion???
So I shall stick with what I have now

Hi Chrissie,

Will give them another try; I do like Ancestry but it's getting so costly. if I could get 25% discount then I would definatley renew. Last year I told them I'd have to cancel if I couldn't get it cheaper, the rely was " well it's your choice madam we don't have the necessary means to offer discount over the phone, when I asked if they could put me in touch with the person who could, they just said they are not authorised to offer discounts over the phone. I told them I'd write in then and they just said we are still not authorised to give discounts". It seems I was on a no-win situation.

But will give them another go because it does seems as if some are getting the discounts. Finger's crossed.

Hi Looby Loo,

I would certainly try ringing them again, I got 25% discount when I renewed last year.

I think it all depends on who you speak to when you make the call, just keep trying rather than just not renew.

Many thanks for the info. I'ts very much appreciated. Last year on a thread someone said they got a discount by ringing them, so I tried it and couldn't get a discount as they said they can't do that over the phone. So I renewed. About a week later someone else put up a thread that said they rang and got a discount by phone. Seems it's a pot luck lottery with the discount. But I will give it another go as £107 is something I cna't afford this year.

These are the prices.

Annual Essentials Membership £83.40
Annual Premium Membership £107.40
Annual Worldwide Membership £155.40

If you phone them you may get a discount, it appears some people do.

If you cancel your tree will still be there and you will be able to access it and add to it as a free member.

Does anyone know how much it is to renew a Premium Membership on Ancestry please? Mine is due on Wed and I havne't received a reminder yet, I need to know if I can afford to renew.

If I can't afford the membership just now and cancel it, will all the info I've put on my tree still be there for a later date?
