there is another way.
start a tree with yourself
record yourself as a child of parents with made up names ( I call mine ''hypothetical mother'' and ''hypothetical father'' then you can attribute two parents each to these, Birth mother & father, and adopted mother & father.

you know folks are on the wrong line, but if you are doing it as a record for yourself it doesnt mater

The easy way,on Genes,is to add the real mother as a partner to the adoptive father.
Just explain in the notes.
You could then,if you wish, add a known/ unknown partner for her.
You can switch between the two sets of parents at "change parents"

If you use commercial software such as Family Tree Maker (FTM) you will find that you have the flexibility to record multiple relationships. You simply add a second set of parents and flag one set as 'Adopted' and the other as 'Biological'.

Otherwise, on GR, if you wish to reflect an adoption by tracing both families, you will need to build 2 trees. In order to do this you will need set up 2 memberships. If you log off the current details via the link in the top right hand corner of the site, then go to the register page you will be able to complete the second registration.

Once complete you will be able to switch between memberships by logging off and entering the separate log in details each time, or, use one of the alternative site flags below, for the second account.

I think you have to have both running separately, so need to add him as another person and just put notes on both entries. But someone else might know better!

Jut located my father's biological family - is there a way to add his biological mother to my tree without my tree thinking I am trying to add his adoptive mother's mother? You know what I mean? Sorry If I am not make sense!
