My grandfather was dismissed from the army suffering with NDH - does anyone know what NDH is ? Have tried looking it up on google etc; but can't find any medical reference
Would be grateful if anyone has any ideas ?

Hi

Is it absolutely clear that it is NDH? Have looked at this site but closest is National Defense HQ but as you know - this is not it.

By putting it in google, this seems the most likely

Non-diabetic hyperglycaemia (NDH)

Thanks Barbara - yes it is definately NDH - he also suffered from neuritis later so I thought it must be some kind of medical condition

The only reference I can find for NDH is as a Military Separation Code
NDH - Early Release - To teach
which isn't something you would suffer from?

Edit
I think Joy's explanation would be more likely.

Thanks Joy - I'll do some research on non-diabetic hyperglycaemia

Hi Paul,
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post - it does say " suffering" from which suggests some kind of medical problem

Are you sure it's not VDH, which is Valvular Disease of the Heart

I have taken this information from an inquest report - it is handwritten but looks like an N - the actual cause of death was gas poisoning which is unrelated to any medical condition. I haven't been able to find his army records as yet

Neuritis fits in with hyperglycaemia as diabetes is a risk factor for this condition. I think (not 100% sure) that NDH is the same as pre-diabetes, which if unchecked goes on to develop into type-2 diabetes. That is, the type you get in middle age often related to obesity.
