Thanks to you all. i live only two hours from the cemetry where Cyril was buried so I will go and visit it soon. thanks for the site with the photo of the grave on it.
I'm guessing that Cyril's family emmigrated to NZ soon after his birth in 1902 as I cannot find him on any census. i will have to look at some shipping records to see if I can find when and who came out to NZ.
It will be interesting to find out whether Cyril Edward was his cousin. Time will tell.

If Ann googles his name she will find the site with the photo of his grave stone

If you get Cyrils death cert it will give his parents names including his mothers maiden name. Also how long he has lived in the country

While White is not an unusual surname, I am puzzled that there should have been 2 of them with the forenames of Cyril Eric L. Perhaps they were cousins.

I agree with Rose that he was the one whose b is registered in Stratford.

He wasn't born in Portsmouth. That was another Cyril E L White.

Wow I am gobsmacked by all this help. I have only a few details - this is my husbands grandfather and you have all been a wonderful help. if he was born in Portsmouth, then no wonder I could not find him. I don't know when he emmigrated to NZ but he certainly did marry Lillian Mary smith, apart from knowing who the chn Warren Henry WHITE, Mavis WHITE and Dawn WHITE were- warren being my husbands father. I don't have any information on the previous generation of Cyril Eric lancelot White but now I have the means to continue looking.

He's showing up in NZ electoral rolls starting 1928.

When did he move to NZ? I'm guessing he met and married your grandmother during the war?
