Please can someone help me get my head around this as my mind iscompletely blank......

Arabella Matilda Thorn Hurrell
married
George Whybrow
in JAS 1887 in West Ham

She was born in JAS 1863 in Rochford Essex

I have been unable to find her in the 1871 or 1881 census. Am I thick, daft or just plain stupid...for she must be there somewhere.

Many thanks

Kathlyn

HI there,
Try looking it up with a slightly different spelling of the surname and try not to put the full name in. That might help.

Have tried that Allison but still can`t find an Arabella. I have found a Matilda Hurrell and I suppose she could have been known as Matilda, but as this is a parish council project I am working on, I am unable to buy certificates to prove the point.

Hi Brummijan,

This is the one I found, so I suppose I will have to dig a little deeper. Thanks for your help.

I don't think there is any way round it but to get the birth cert. A pity, you would expect it to be easy with that name!!

Not sure it helps - probably not! - but Matilda is Caroline's grand-daughter rather than Samuel's I think. "Step-brother" means brother-in-law:

Marriages Mar 1860 (>99%)
Hurrell Caroline Rochford 4a 159
Ives Robert Rochford 4a 159

Could it be that her parents decided to use her second name - Matilda - when she was a child but she changed to Arabella when she married.
