Hi All

Now there is no option on here for it, so should there be?.

AND

Is it a good idea anyway?.

Perhaps GR should hold a vote.

I personally would not make my tree public. The reason being I only open my tree to people who have a genuine connection.

Maybe we could have a tick box that you can decided whether you wanted your tree public or private.

I have a tree on ancestry and it's set to private and when someone contacts me I just give them my email address and correspond through email.

Why would you want to make your tree public anyway? Whilst I'm happy to share with other (possible) rellies, I would want to know who was looking at it and why. (Too nosy)

Hi grannyfranny

I agree, perhaps Ancestry should have a vote?.

Margaret, I always ask how they think we are connected?

If someone thinks there is a genuine connection they will get back in touch, if not then it progresses no further.

Why spend a lot of time researching info for someone else to come along and copy it?
I had one yesterday where there were 5 trees with the same ancestor as me (not direct brother of gt gt grandfather) I noticed they all had a different date of death for this man 1936 when I had 1933.
I thought it must be me that was wrong until I looked into it further...no they all had him dying in the US somewhere?? instead of London area where he had always lived. So they must have all copied each others trees

I'm private in Ancestry, the other month saw my mother in someones
tree, so contacted them to ask what relation they were to my mother,
needless to say no reply but noticed they had over 70,000 in one tree
and over 16,000 in another, so I answered my own question.

I keep my tree private. however I have more info on my FTM tree and will willingly send printouts for a side of the family that someone is connected too I only open my Genes tree to proven close family .I dont see how all my family is connected when its through a distant marriage of one twig. I am more than willing to give info for that twig :-)

Hi Darklord

I like to keep mine private. Should someone be able to prove their connection, I have no objection to letting them view it. I do ask very pertinent questions.
