Can anyone tell me if the death registrations on Ancestry or any other site from 1837 onwards are a full record of all deaths after 1837. If so, is it possible that someone could be missed or not registered. If someone was missed or not registered I assume that the only other record would be held in the Parish Registers.

Any death registered 1837-2005 will be on Ancestry. Mistranscribes can happen and the record is only as good as the person giving the info and the person recording it.

In theory, at least, all deaths should be registered after 1837. However, you will not find deaths registered in the Parish Registers. Only marriages were recorded, together with baptisms and burials.

Are you able to post some details? A fresh pair of eyes often helps.

Hi Inspector Green Pen

Sorry I meant burial registrations. I'm afraid I don't have much info for the person I am looking to find a burial for.

His name was William Unsworth and the only record I have for him is on the 1841 Census which records his age as 36, I don't think the age is correct but one never knows, I have checked the original and there is no mistake in the transcription. I believe that ages were rounded down on the 1841.
The parish records for his burial would most probably be at St. Peter Church Bolton and they haven't been transcribed.

Two of his children Ann and Richard were married in 1846 and he is named as the father but it does not say deceased, I know that wasn't always put after the fathers name but I am assuming that he passed away after 1846 and before 1851 as his wife is listed on the 1851 as widow.

There are no records for a William Unsworth on Ancestry between 1841 and 1851 that I can see. I've had no luck with family search (LDS) site either.

If this is correct 1841...

then this should be 1851 when Alice is a widow

So William died between the censuses. Its a common local name (31 deaths in Lancashire) between the dates.

Yes the Census you posted are correct, I could only find 29 entries for burials on the on line parish records for lancashire none of which fit the details providing the age on the 1841 is correct, and none on ancestry.

I believe the parish records for William would be at St. Peter Bolton and they haven't been transcribed, how would I go about looking at these records. I live in Australia but would be able to get someone to go to the church and look for me if that is what one should do?

Hi Susan
That would seem to fit with the 1841 Census details for William, so perhaps William was not Alice's husband but a brother in law perhaps?
Certainly gives food for thought. I have tried checking marriages but will go over them again.
Thanks Chris
