Thank you Maureen. Then name in question is Marlin, strange i know, but have seen it on many things and spelled differently. Have seen it on a grave though in Burton spelled Marlin. Not sure where it came from.

It makes sense that he is living with inlaws. He was made bankcrupt.

there isn't an address on the 1861 original, other than Burton-upon-Stather written in the parish heading

this could be Jane and some of the children on 1871 census, Jane is listed as married.

Burton Stather is in Lincolnshire. Patchem. It is on a family tree someone sent me, i must admit i haven't checked it for myself, but it was on my tree but not really researchable as i couldn't find a story, until now. Burton stather is on the Trent. I know he was a waterman too and and grocer and was made bankcrupt in 1868, so thought the 1861 census would help. many thanks

Can anyone find for me a George Parkin born 1843 Burton Stather in the 1861 census. Says he was a grocer, didn't know that. Would be interesting to know where he lived. Wife Jane.
