is it because Cleethorpes is a registration district in its own right whereas Grimsby came under the district of Caistor until 1897

Grimsby is on the banks of the River Humber.
North East Lincolnshire...as it is called now, since boundary changes took place.

Erm ...is Graham not refering to the GR 'map' available on tree facility, rather than not being able to 'find' Grimsby generally ? lol

That's how I read it... :-)

EDIT however using that map, which I have never done before, Grimsby IS there ( my grandfather was from Grimsby).

There have been so many boundary changes in the UK over the years and Yorkshire area had more than its fair share sometimes an old map is very useful when looking at a Census. If you log onto an AA or RAC site it will plan a current route for you, give the mileage and estimated travel time. No need to go out to the car and switch the TomTom on!!
Edit:
Return journey can be planned at the same time and it is all in Plain English with even the speed camera warnings.

I have a feeling Graham is new and may never find his way back here , let alone Grimsby .

Try an AA or RAC map much more use!! Better still if you send me a personal message with an email address I will scan the page out of an AA Map Book and email it to you.

I have been trying to find the above on the map used for the results of Census searches,as of this moment I am unable to do so .
Cleethorpes which is next to Grimsby is displayed.
