I have the reference for her marriage and I know buying the certificate would give me her maiden name, but right now money is a bit tight and I can't send off for it until later. (along with the 200 or so others I need!)

For now,I have the name of the man she married, Julius Mutter, the marriage was in Salford in 1889. Vol. 8D p.226.

Are there any other sources online which might reveal her maiden name to me?

When you find the GRO ref on FreeBMD you click on the page nos and all the people with the same ref nos show. .You should be able to pick her out by her christian name, Of course if there is more than one with the same christian name then the only way is to buy the cert.
For births after 1911 the mmn is shown in the GRO index so finding a child will tell you mums maiden name

I think i'm going to use Free BMD more often from now on.

This is the first time I have seen the name Fletcher in our family, and this helps me so much...

I see Julius Mutter ( Head) was born in Germany FS.

I don't suppose the Germans kept Parish records of BMD like we did?

It would be great to try and get his birth certificate.

They were Jewish Germans, came after another round of pogroms to Manchester in the 1870's I believe.
