Pauline,

you already have all of this on the other thread... may I ask why start a new one?? GR also state 1 post per topic, this is so helpers/researchers don't waste their time and duplicate findings.

Hi Barara Many thanks for your reply, butnone
of the above is right I have been through it all.
I have the feeling he is illigitmate hence the reason Ellen left his birth father off the certificate, maybe she gave him up but the fact is he kept the name Hall up untill he Married in 1877 and after the first son was born
changed to Grimshaw, the irony is 1 of the witness`s on his
marriage cert is a Thomas Grimshaw trhe plot thickens Pauline

Hi tootyfruity
Many Thanks for your reply yes I have his birth cert born 4 march 1859
Mother Ellen Hall no father named ,
As I said found A Hall family in Moorside Swinton from 1841 onwards but no James on the 61, when he would have been 2, I felt sure I had the right
family, but if he is not on may be I am wrong, Where as he been for 18 years ?? as the funny bit of this story is when he married in 1877 he was
still known as James Hall in 1878, around the time of the first child,
he as changed his name to Grimshaw.
but named his son Joseph Hall Grimshaw as all the sons that followed
likewise Hall in the middle , would you need to have a name
change done by deed pole then ?? Pauline

Hi Pauline and welcome to the boards

Do you have the index reference for James Hall's birth and so know he was born in March Quarter of 1859 or his birth certificate?
