Can anyone tell me please if a child was adopted by a step father then why would the birth mother also be on the adoption cert?

I have two birth certs, one when i was born 1962 & one eight years later 1970 when i was adopted by my step father
i know my mother was my birth mother so why would she be on the adoption cert
can anyone tell me how i can find out please?

It's what is known as a 'Mother's Own' adoption...............

Your mother had to 'adopt' you , because, if only your stepfather had done so, you would have no longer been legally your mother's child. You would have been his.................
