Occupation 'traveller'

Does anyone know what the occupation 'traveller' would have been in 1895>

It might also have been a commercial traveller which today would be more commonly known as a company representative.

The best option would be to try to find the person in earlier or later census records to see whether they might indicate anything.

Traveller in those days = Sales rep today

My grandfather was a 'traveller' before he set up in business on his own account..........used the experience to build up a list of contacts who became his customers.
