Martin Report 23 May 2011 16:52

I'm trying to find how, why or when my maternal great grandfather Stephen George PERRY went to South Africa.

He married Mary Newton in Stoke on Trent on 3 Aug 1901 and went on to have four children one of whom was my grandmother, Veronica Perry. I have a birth certificate for my gran confirming she was born on South Africa in 1909 but I can't find any record of why they went to South Africa, by which route or when? Can anyone help or point me in the direction of passenger manifests for the period?

Thanks in advance

Martin

Sorry to state the obvious! But does his occupation offer any clues?

Hi,

I have his death cert and other documents state George Stephen (or George but never Stephen alone). His occupation according to his death cert is Potters Warehouseman which would tie in with living in the potteries but doesn't help with the South Africa connection as far as in aware.

Thanks

Martin

Did they stay in SA, or did he ever return to the UK?
